The New Neuroscience — What Actually Changed and Why It Matters

The neuroscience of emotion, stress, and nervous system function has undergone a fundamental shift in the last two decades. This training covers what actually changed — predictive processing, constructed emotion, and allostatic regulation — and why it hasn't made it into clinical practice yet in any coherent way. By the end you'll have a mechanistic framework, not a metaphor, for understanding how distress is generated, why insight has limits, and what kinds of experiences actually reach the level where nervous system patterns can change.

01
Predictive processing
The brain is not a stimulus-response machine. It's a prediction system. This changes the answer to why clients stay stuck.
02
Constructed emotion
Emotions aren't hardwired categories — they're built in real time. This has direct implications for what emotion labeling can and can't do clinically.
03
Allostatic regulation
Capacity is a clinical variable. A depleted tank is a mechanistic limit on what interventions can reach — not a motivational problem.
This training is for you if

You want CE credit
that actually changes
how you think.

You have clients who understand their patterns and still can't change them

You work with treatment-resistant presentations and want a better framework

You're interested in nervous system science but haven't found a coherent clinical translation

You want to understand the science well enough to actually explain it to clients
